Your Vision for our New Library

Your Vision for our New Library

Now is our chance to provide ideas for what we would like our new library to be like. ORL has a survey to fill out and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity.

A public survey is being conducted so everyone can help plan the future of yORLibrary! No idea is too big or too small. And there are six $100 gift cards to be won for getting involved! Whether you are a frequent or rare library user, we want to hear from you!

  • What do you love?
  • What improvements should we make?
  • What role should the library play in your community?

ORL, the Okanagan Regional Library system is looking to get input into what we think our new library should be. Since we don’t have one now, we can be as creative as we wish.

One thing I’m considering is a larger community space in Scotch Creek. We don’t have a firehall, don’t have a meeting room in Scotch Creek, no library, and we need space for daycare, seniors housing, possibly food hub, maybe we should consider a larger multi-use facility, and most of these items have grants available to build them.

I know that libraries in other communities have electric fireplaces, a reading area, an area for groups to get together (like quilters, knitters or similar). They also have programs for kids and adults. In short a much nicer, more user friendly and usable space than what we’ve had up to now. As our community grows, these options, and more, will become more valuable. The library is striving to become more relevant to the communities they’re in, this would be a good start for them. The North Shuswap contributed almost $230,000 into the library system in 2022. Let’s consider what would be a good return on that investment.
