Scotch Creek Mosquitos

Scotch Creek Mosquitos

It’s that time of year again, Mosquito Time! My understanding is that the permit is at BC Parks awaiting their signoff. I’ve asked for this as soon as possible. Fingers crossed!

Update June 6, 2024. I just heard from CSRD staff:

“just a quick note to advise that the Province has issued the permit to allow for the monitoring and treatment of mosquitos in the Shuswap Lake Park for the 2024 season.  Our contractor has been informed and will be making plans to begin the work associated with delivering the service for your area.”

I have also had some questions about whether Lee Creek will be getting treated. My understanding is that it will not, Sqwlax te Secwecempculecw (LSLB) has not provided permission for Tsutswecw Park to be mosquito controlled over the past few years and it doesn’t seem likely that will change.

  1. After experiencing treatment vs non-treatment summers, this is critical for summer enjoyment in the Scotch Creek area. BC Parks needs new management, based on not just this but earlier comments by senior managers that campers truly want the real camping experience, including mosquito infestations. Ridiculous!

  2. As we watch the high water approach , I sure hope someone in the sign off process
Understands the scientific need for treating the mosquitoes at the right time

  3. Any word on the Lee Creek area every being done again? It was treated with the same environmentally pellets for decades and it’s an injustice that we cannot even go outside in the bright hot sun because of clouds.

  4. I tried to enjoy the outdoors this evening at my home in Lee Creek. Unfortunately, I think it may be too late for mosquito control. It appears the little buggers have already started hatching. 🤞 Hopefully the LSLB approves it very, very soon!
I know we were all hoping to enjoy this summer, (and tourism income) after last years fires, and the previous year’s outbreak of mosquitoes (without the pesticide pellets).
Hang in there fellow North Shuswapians! We’re all in this together 🎵

    1. Mosquito control has been approved for Scotch Creek and the contractor will be starting as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Lee Creek is not in the plans.
