Shuswap Watershed Council Question

Shuswap Watershed Council Question

I had a question from a local resident regarding the Shuswap Watershed Council. I thought it was a good question so I’ve provided that question and my response here. Hello Jay. We are talking about the the Shuswap Watershed Council. It being a nonregulatory body I was asked “Of what value is it?”Could that funding be better spent on the prevention of invasive species? Like more inspection stations? I recall when there was discussion about this subject at one of…

Do you have Issues?

With the CSRD I mean… Now’s the time to let us know your pains, concerns, wants, desires and maybe even things we’re doing well! You’ve heard me talk about North Shuswap 2040. Now is the time to cast your imagination ahead about 15 years and decide what your community should look like, feel like, be like. We need input from all segments of the community. Working folks, single moms, retired people, pickleballers, sledders, gardeners and farmers. I especially want to encourage…

Who does what?

Who does what?

This summer we will have the opportunity to question the CSRD on it’s role and the services it provides to the North Shuswap. Our feedback will be compiled by an outside consultant and presented to the CSRD board in October or November. In preparation for this information gathering, a graphic outlining the various responsibilities of the different level of government may be helpful. Keep an eye out for the opportunities to provide your feedback or respond to a survey. The…

Taxes Taxes Taxes

Taxes Taxes Taxes

Every year, we pay taxes. It’s a bit frustrating, and even after all these years of paying them, it still feels like I’m not getting what I’m paying for. We’ve just gone through the painful process of the CSRD budget, and, well, looks like property taxes are going up again. Our properties are more valuable, although with interest rates where they are, it seems property sales are slowing and a price correction may be in store. And the value of…

Anglemont Wildfire Risk Reduction

Anglemont Wildfire Risk Reduction

Work is beginning in Anglemont this week to reduce wildfire risk in the Crown forests above the community. Kk’atsin Resources LLP will have crews on the western end of Anglemont, working eastward towards Evelyn falls. I’m not sure how long the planned work will continue but it’s great to see that we do have some work actually progressing, and we’re looking forward to more in Anglemont later this year.

CSRD not responsible for road maintenance

Posted by the CSRD November 8, 2022 With winter storms or weather changes, often concerns with winter driving conditions start to crop up and the CSRD office begins to receive calls asking for service. This includes any road issues such as: snowplowing, potholes, snowbanks, icy conditions or any other winter road-related concern. If you have a concern or comment, please contact the…

Contacts For Bylaw And Other Infractions

Contacts For Bylaw And Other Infractions

Bylaws and laws are in place to protect us from excesses and idiots. Some of the bylaws that are in place in the CSRD seem a bit too much ‘big-brother’, at least to me, but likely there was a relatively large issue at the time that indicated there should be some control over that particular problem. It seems to be much easier to get a bylaw or law in place than to remove it, something about government creep. Anyway, bylaws…

Flood risk rising

Yes, there is the potential of flooding of the lake this year. Between a very late spring and significant rainfall, it might be very high water.
